treldib, we were just passing through with the same question, only we've got pekins. is it about the same for all duck species? thanks for the info.

You will at least have to wait out winter - She will be old enough to lay right in the middle of winter so may keep you waiting a while longer. Welcome to BYC by the way...from another member from Melbourne with ducks. Good to see someone else from so close by- I am so used to talking to people over the other side of the world.

I have a campbell that the lady I got her from said she was hatched April of last year. She didnt start laying or at least no eggs that I could find til October. Since then she has not missed a day of laying. And her and my runner drake has produced some of the most beautiful babies.

Thanks for the major let down guys, none of mine are over 4 weeks old right now! I guess after this last batch of eggs I can unplug the incubator for the next 7+ months.

I got my first eggs from a Silver Appleyard a little after six months (25 weeks). The second female began two weeks later (27 weeks). The Cayugas didn't start until 31 and 35 weeks. Since Khaki Campbells are high egg layers, I would expect them to lay what treldib described between 21 and 27 weeks. I have read that you don't want them to start earlier because the eggs will be smaller (meaning smaller ducklings if hatched growing into smaller birds in the breed) and females who start early don't lay as long in their lifetime as females who start a little later.
