When can I let new flock outside

I bought 6 hens and a rooster of 1 1/2 years and layed the day I got them. They have been here 4 days, when can I open the door and let them roam around and feel safe that they will return to coop at dusk?

If they've been in the coop for 4 days it's "home" to them now. They should be fine.

New egg, I see that you are from North Carolina, I lived there in Jacksonville in 1973. I knew a women there by the name of Iona McCormick at that time who raised horses and ran across her name on Google and see that she is now and has been a well read chicken fancier. Do you know her? She raises fancy chickens?
