When can I start feeding my 5 week old chicks treats?

Started mine today at 12 days with 1/2 chopped hard boiled egg, it was hysterical. Once my 4 figured out it edible and not a threat they gobbled it up. They yelled at the saucer for a good 5 minutes from a corner before they took turns standing on the egg. 2 took a nibble and they all ran into a corner to discuss it. Chattered amongst themselves for several minutes before they all went to the saucer and devoured it in about 15 minutes.

Heck I was feeding mine treats at 2 days old! As long as the treats are healthy, and they have grit, I see no problem. I feed mine meal worms, bits of cheese, greens and weeds, bits of fruit, and yogurt. I consider bread, rice, pasta, etc.. to be "junk food", empty calories. They are so spoiled they go nuts when they see me!

Anything other than arthropods for such young chicks is junk food.

The first thing I feed my new biddies is chick grit. In about 30 minutes I follow that up with mashed up hard boiled eggs with some dry rolled oats on the side.

I have a whole container of organic rolled oats. Might try that next. They have had grit for most of the past week.

My 5 week old chicks loved corn, lettuce, blueberries, watermelon, peas, swiss chard and other treats that I had around the house. They were also free range to get all the bugs around the barn.

I start feeding mine treats around a week. As long as they have grit, and you don't give them too many it's fine
