I think your biggest difficulty even when the mallard is older is that there is only one. I do not have much luck adding one duck or chicken for that matter to a pen unless they are at least the same size as the others. Your mallard is never going to be the same size as your pekins. Maybe they are calmer though. We have call ducks and they will really pick on a single duck added to them.
