When can "new chicks" go outside for good in winter?

They are exploring their world now and learning new things. Up to 10 weeks you can get by with 1 sq. ft. per bird for light breeds, 2 sq. for heavy breeds. To 20 weeks you should triple that. But know that close confinement like that complicates things. High stocking density requires more cleaning and opens the opportunity for conflict. Always opt for the most space possible. Once orienting themselves to their surroundings, they won't run away. They will stay within eyesight of where they have safely slept.
The other side of the coin predation.
Everything likes the taste of chicken.
