When can you eat the egg??

I only have 1 hen that is laying-usually 1 a day. And she has just started so they are still a little small. It's not really enough to bring in and save for us so...
My 200lb Mastiff is raw-fed so I have been giving him those fresh eggs. He wouldn't eat store bought eggs so how surprized was I when I dropped the first egg my hen layed and he cleaned it up along with the shell. Since then he gets 'em all!
(at 200lb's it is recommended he eats 5-6lbs of raw food daily-egg's save $$$)
I have 20 hen's that hatched May 16th-when they start laying my husband and son and I will also get to enjoy fresh eggs!

Aww that's nuts! I would give it to your dog first before your youngens.Geez! Actually depending on the age kids have lower immune systems then adults because they haven't been intoduced to as many viruses as us.Thats why kids get sick more often then we do and it's more critical. I wouldn't give anything to my youngens that I'm not willing to eat.

Seriously???? And the first thing they do is wash them. So, they remove their natural protective coating and then store them forever!!! I used to use store eggs to make my eggnog (before getting chickens)!!!

Ewww.... weeks old?! Ok, now I feel soooo bad about my baking business. I am going to have to up the number of chickens we have and use their eggs to bake my biscotti!

I couldn't image eating 2 month old eggs.... not to mention PAYING for them!? Or worse, making someone pay me for them. I feel ill

When I visited my mom last week her eggs were store bought and laid on June 15th and June 18th, and they didn't expire until end of August. The good news is next time I visit I can bring her fresh eggs since enough of my hens are starting to lay.
