I have eggs in the incubator and under a broody. Some are a darker brown and I can't see if anything is going on at day 4. The med brown I could see a tiny bit. The light ones I can see great. I use a 1500 lumens flashlight to candle. How and when will I know if the darker ones are doing anything?

Pic of the incubator eggs to see color.

Thanks. I had read that but I can't see that darker spot in my darker ones. That is sort of how it looks in the medium ones. The flashlight top is bigger than the eggs. I did cut down a paper towel tube to fit in there but it isn't exact so light still spills from the sides a bit. Not sure if that is why?
If they are really dark eggs, you need to be in a super dark room. The light definitely needs to fit around the egg.
How many days into incubating are you?
If all else fails, you should leave them in until lockdown. Candle them and you might be able to see the air cell and the other part completely black and those are good.
If you can't see anything, you'll just have to go clear through incubation and then just see if it hatches. :)

Thanks. They were only day 4 last night when I candled them. The room was pitch black. So maybe my flashlight? It fits around the eggs but a bit big so lights up around. Tried to make a holder of sorts but don't think it helped. Lol

I have a smaller flashlight, with an attachment on the end that fits the eggs tightly. I was able to see "something" inside a couple of VERY dark brown eggs and very well in the sky blue Cream Legbar eggs at 6 days. Maybe try a different light that better fits the egg? My "candler" is only 500 lumens, but works pretty well.
