When describing Leghorns ...

My leghorns come when called and follow me around. But if I dare try to touch them they squak and fly/run away as fast as they can. They like me from a distance.

Thank you all so much for the replies! I totally get it now. It's funny because I had posted in another thread earlier tonight and I was talking about the different personalities I see in my different-aged chicks. I think I said the leghorns (at two weeks) are all about speed. Everything they do is in fast-forward. If they have to get to the other side of the brooder, they do it like a lightning bolt, run run run! Then they just stand there. LOL

Thank you again ... when I would hear "flighty" I would think "blond." (Please don't anyone take that personally!) Now I understand that it's literal ... flighty means FLIGHT-y.

My leghorns are flighty (skittish), if you try to pet them the squawk and run away. They are aggressive and dominant over my sweet RIR's. If you try to pick them up they act like you are trying to slaughter them, the RIR's just let me pick them up. I have to chase the white ones all over the pen to catch them. All I can say is they better lay good eggs.

Oh yes, they are also flight-ty. I have one little spot that is not covered yet with poultry netting. Naturally one of the white ones got out and couldn't figure out how to get back in. Luckily I found her before the dogs did and she wouldn't let me touch her, I had to open the pen so she could run in. Don't know if my dogs would hurt her but I don't want to find out.

My Leghorns are the first to take off when I enter the coop; however, they are the first to come hang out with me once I am still.

Mine are hatchery chickens, though, and only 11 weeks old, so I'm sure they've got a little mutt in them.
