When did you have your nest boxes ready for " practice "?

I was told if I put my nest boxes out to soon it could make my hens go broody. Is that true?

Silly question but does the color matter?

Nope. A hen will only go broody when her hormones go crazy. And she'll go broody with or without a rooster, nest box, eggs, etc.

Thanks for clearing that up. Now I have to go and tell BF that I was wrong and he does have to hurry and build nest boxes

Someone once posted that their hen was trying to hatch a pecan nut. It was hilarious!

When I first got into chickens I didn't build a nest box until the day I found my first egg. The girls figured out what it was for right away, they didn't need any practice.

No, it's a personal preference. The hens will like either. I use white because most of my girls will be laying brown or tinted eggs but I have one white leghorn too...that could be tricky. The ceramic eggs look real.
