Probably. Free ranging is the best to avoid stress. And head hens are in general great to raise a flock.Ours only have a coop at night (it to lay) otherwise free range
Our chicks and mamas are in a separate coop and an enclosed run. However lots of interaction between them and flock! Our head chicken is broody, so I’m probably more worried than I should be!
I would be worried to free range chicks where I live. We have an abundance of cats and smaller birds of prey.
