When did your Barred Rocks start laying?

I have a friendly family wager going on as to who will lay first. My 15 week old Barred Rock or my 5 month old Brahma. For those who have Barred Rocks when did YOURS start laying??

in 3 weeks my Barred rocks will be 5 months old still not given me eggs, I may have to wait till August

Oh wow! Well I will keep my fingers crossed for an egg for you! lol I did not expect that

I have two barred rocks. They are 18 weeks and two days old...still no eggs.

Trying to wait patiently.

I am thinking by looks that my RIR's might be the first to lay though.

I was given older hens and I noticed that my Barred rocks follow them back to the nesting box so maybe they are trying to figure things out but we watch them from a far and they just stand at the door and watch the girls lay their eggs and then come out and they follow them again and go free range some more.

Maybe they will surprised us... but so far I only have 3 egg layers and we saw the australorp breed his gf australorp for the first time tonight so maybe she will give us an egg any day now. If she does then we will have 4 more egg layers.

We are waiting on the Barred sisters to catch up

lol well those who are voting for Brahma Mama to lay first will be happy to hear this hehe! I had been hoping the Barred Rock would lay first, and even placed a bet on her. We shall see!

Any other Barred Rock owners share your experience as well! Share the age of your BR and if/when they started laying.

Do you know if Brahmas grow faster than Barred Rocks?

They grow much slower and usually get mature around 18 months (ish)

Then maybe your barred rock will lay first if the Brahma matures slower

Good point! Never thought of that lol. I am still a newbie to chickens

I am just excited for whoever to lay whenever really

I will be so excited the day I go out and there is an egg in the coop, hopefully they will lay there hehe I also have 3 Wyandottes and an EE but they are only 11 weeks and EE is 15 weeks but they lay later I hear.
