When did your buff orps start laying?****UPDATE 12/23 with Photo****

I was glad to see this post, as I am going down today and see if I can see who is laying. I am pretty sure that my BO are Not laying or laying with any consisitancy. I have 9 and have been getting 7 pretty regular, somedays 6. But I am sure that they are coming from my stars, black chickens, and barred rock. I think that the BO are very close to the same age, but not laying yet. mk

Well, ladies and gentlemen, today was the day!!!!

I had to rush my son off to playgroup early and asked my husband to take care of the girls (to all who have followed our saga..this is batch 2- first batch got eaten in our basement by what we and animal control guy determined was most likely a snake-batch 2 consists of 4 Buff Orp girls hatched 6/29/09 and raised in our office upstairs right underfoot). Well, I got home from playgroup and my hubby asked me to look in the refig. on the 2nd shelf. Surprise!!! Our first little egg. He found it in the coop but not in the egg boxes. So, hoping she lays in the egg boxes next time but who can complain right now during this moment of elation!!!!

Here is a pic...with Ratty, the Cat, being his typical nosey self!!:

I don't have a BO but a Blue Orphington. She laid her first egg today at 7 months. I think she chose the most miserable day weatherwise-- its really windy and the high was 17 today! But it was a very beautiful, very light, brown egg.

My buff o's started laying at about 23 weeks.

One laid at 22, but I think she is a cross with a leghorn... her eggs are so light... cream colored.
