When did your earliest hen lay her first egg? If you could comment with her breed that would give some perspective! If you want to put the ages & breeds of more than one in the comments, I would love that too!

Thought it would be cool to see the different experiences! My hens are about 14 weeks and a few are getting wattles and slightly red (the ISAs and Barred Rocks), so I’m hoping we will get eggs before the winter from at least one or two of them!

Thank you for taking the time to respond!
I have golden commits that may start right about 16-17 weeks.

i received my chicks april 1st no not a joke
mine was 19 weeks i have 32 some Rhode island red (10ish) but most are black sex link
have 2 Rhode island red roosters
they are now 8 months 2 weeks old
i get anywhere from 14 to 22 eggs a day prob average 18 give or take
thus i suggest have double the chickens of the number eggs you want
i dehydrate my extras and save in mylar bags and nitrogen to displace the air with O2 in it
just a thought

BSL started at 22 weeks. My Australorps light Brahmas, and Sussex soon after. All 12 are almost 8 months now and still no eggs from my EEs and dark brahma. Now it's cold and dark so most of them have stopped laying. I went from 4-5 eggs a day to 0-2.

i added two lights one on each end of run and put them on a plug in weather timer $10 at local wall mart i have it set for 2 1/2 hours more light --- they are led and cost <$2 a year to be lit 3 hours a day according to the box

Comets & some ISA Browns...some of mine were laying at 13 weeks, some varied btwn 14 & 18 weeks. They may be slightly smaller birds, but they lay nice size eggs, lay early & they have the friendliest personalities ever, love being close to me, picked up & snuggled, etc. Love them! ❤️
