I bought a pair of french black copper marans they are 5 months old
I want to know when will my hen start laying eggs
The rooster still doesn't crow
Aren't they mature enough to lay and crow?

At what age did your black copper marans start laying ??

I just can't wait to see their chocolate brown eggs!!

Wow that's awesome your so lucky to have her laying this early

Were so excited to see her first egg
Me and my husband race to her coop to see if she laid eggs

Please share all info you have !!!
:fl

Very excited.
I really wanted to hear the chicken song, but nothing.

So I come home in the morning and do the chicken count and I'm missing one Leghorn. I finally look in the nest box and she is sitting in there and she lets me pet her. Then she gets up and goes away, no egg.

I think to my self that she must be getting ready to lay in a few days, an hour later my kids start yelling EGG.

It is exciting. She laid her second two days later.

She is only 4.7 months, ( yes I'm a geek and have a spreadsheet on when they were born and how old they are. Lol. Actually I'm a Marine and a Fire Fighter with OCD. LOL.)

I am surprised she layed. Her sister hasn't and the other 4 are a few days younger.

Flock ranges from 1.5 months to 4.7 months
With 15 chickens

Wow hehe I keep record of every bird I have

Finding egg for the first time is just amazing
My husband bought our first chickens from someone they were few days old so we had to wait for 6 MONTHS until they laid their first egg and when they layed the first one we were so excited we took pictures of it :weee

I can't wait for my BCM to lay
I check the nest everyday before I go to work and after I come back still nothing :(

I think mixed Breed hens start laying earlier than pure bred ones idk
My mixed breeds started laying at about 4.5-5 months but my pure Rhode island red hens just started laying at 5-6 months their eggs are still small

I read that marans can begin laying at 8 MONTHS ??!!
Is that true ??
If it is then I have 3 more months of impatient waiting

:he

My EE started laying at 19 weeks, my buff orp started at 23 weeks. I have a barred rock that I got as a pullet and am not sure how old she is exactly - she started laying a few weeks ago and I'd say she's probably about 26 weeks or so. I have one more buff orp (23 weeks) and a black sex link (unknown age - but a bit younger, I think) that have not started laying yet.
