hahahaha oh you will know when a hen is broody they look all squat and pushed down on the nest and they will turn in to KUJO
Does she sleep in the nest? Do you see her out and about with the rest of the hens through the day? Depending on her age she may be broody rather than sick. Check out the broody hen info on the site (numerous threads about broody hens, just do a search of the phrase broody hen) If you don't think she is broody then you may want to post info about how she is acting on the threads for emergencies and illness. So if anyone knows... I have a bantam hen that has been sitting in the nesting box. She hasn't laid an egg but acting out of sort. Kinda like she wants to lay but doesn't. Is she maybe sick?
So, my golden laced Wyandotte s the first to lay... Have got 5 eggs now... But she is laying every second day... Is this normal? Will she go 1 a day eventually?
Different breeds lay with different frequency.... a leghorn is an egg making machine and will probably lay an average of 300+ eggs a year, Black Australorp are also known to lay a lot. Some breeds only lay 100 or 200/yr though. I don't have any GLWs so don't know what the breed is normally expected to lay, but some birds are known to average 3 or 4 a week, so every other day may end up being her norm. Look up some of the breed reviews, most of them have reference areas for egg production. So, my golden laced Wyandotte s the first to lay... Have got 5 eggs now... Wyandottes are a medium egg producer, an average of 200 eggs a year, a little more for an exceptional layer. At a guess maybe 4 a week in the warmer weather and few over the colder period. So, my golden laced Wyandotte s the first to lay... Have got 5 eggs now... But she is laying every second day... Yesterday we finally found two eggs. Not sure which ones layed them, will be looking forward to many more...![]()
