When do chickens stop laying eggs

i have two ISA Brown chickens. I’ve had them for one and a half years. One of the chickens has stopped laying eggs last year, the other one is still laying. Does it make any difference to their life expectancy?

That's difficult to say. Did your hen stop laying or is she laying internally? The later would certainly shorten her life.

Welcome! Hens should continue to lay some eggs for most of their lives, although that first year (or two) will be the most productive. However, longevity is nearly never considered in breeding, either at hatcheries (the source of hybrid layers like yours) or at private breeders, so many many hens develop reproductive problems which shorten their lives. Heritage breeds may tend to do better longer, and high producing hybrid layers tend to live and produce for a shorter time.
My oldest hens lived to be ten, and more only made it to four years of age.

'Live long and prosper' is what we all want for ourselves, and our birds. With hens, time can be all too short. I love to have chicks from my older hens and roosters!

Late last year she had the symptoms of an egg bound chicken and was very lethargic. She stayed like that for a few weeks but then recovered suddenly. She’s very active and scratches dirt and eats like the other chickens so I don’t know.
