I had placed a "training" roost in my brooder that the chicks liked to play around with but never slept on. At approximately 7 weeks they were moved out to the coop where my three pullets had two roosts at different levels to choose from. They slept on the floor all cuddled up until about 15 weeks....then two would use the roost and one would stay on the floor in the doorway of the coop. Training them by putting them on the roost in the evening didn't work but eventually they learned on their own. At about 17 weeks all three were on the roost. At 19 weeks I added in the nest box. Now at 20/21 weeks 2 are roosting at night and one likes to sleep on the ground next to the nest box.
