When do Chicks Need a Roost

we had one in there withing a few days of getting chicks, gotta leave enough room though to keep em in or they fly out lol. my chicks were trying to fly by 5 days old

My chicks started using a roost at one week. I made a simple one by taking some bamboo stakes from my garden and poking them through the side of the brood box. I inserted four pieces of bamboo laying them side-by-side. I think you could use small tree branches, wooden dowels, or even rounded molding. The chicks took the roost right away and now they use it constantly.

I added a roost [that I built] to my brooder the instant I saw the chicks sit on top of the feeder. It's a small bridge btwn 2 coop ramps. They love sleeping UNDER it as they don't quite "get it" yet, but it's fun to watch them romp during the day
