I have a little Cochin who is plenty old enough to lay, but isn't. Do they start later than other breeds? I believe she is ~8 months old at least.

Cochins like other oriental are slow to mature. I'm waiting for some that are 11 months old to start. it is also very cold and they don't want to start laying. Her comb will get red and her neck feathers will get shinny.

Emma & Aunt Bee my bantam cochin started laying around 20-21 weeks old. I was a VERY happy chickie momma!

I was so overly excited that my family thought I laid the egg!

My bantam Cochin just started laying last month even though she was basically POL age when I got her back in July. My LF Cochin hasn't started yet and I also got her this last Summer. Course none of my flock is laying right now other than the bantam.
