When do ducks begin laying eggs?

Hi guys! so I was just wondering about how old they are when they first start laying? I have a female mallard about 6 months and she hasn't laid her first egg yet. I'm just wondering about when she'll start? I need to get a duckling proof the area up before they hatch which will take a while. Thanks

I thought 6 months is when they started laying. I read it somewhere. But my female is 4 1/2 months and she laid her first egg today! I'm so excited but this is my first time with an egg so not really sure what to do!

It is usually 5 months on that they start laying, you have an early bloomer.

I'm so excited! I don't know the first thing with the egg laying process! I figured I had more time to read up on it. Just going to see what she does with it! Hoping for a baby though!!

I have Muscovy's and sometimes they are close to 8-9 months old before they begin to lay. it has nothing to do with the drake it's all up to the duck and her body as to when she starts to lay. So be patient. lol what breed do you have?

I have muscoveys and some of my girls have never laid an egg and some not for a long time.
Mine start at 4 months or 5 months. Sometimes the first eggs of a beginner are a bit smaller but when they go through their first moult they begin to lay normal sized eggs.
You don't have to do anything about the egg laying. Just collect..cook and enjoy. Great for baking cakes, biscuits etc.
I love to fry sunny side up. Great in omelettes too.
You will know when a duck goes clucky, she will stay on the nest and when off and walking she will squeak and fan her tail out. She will also line the nest with feathers.
Your ducks I have never had anything to do with, I have only had muscovey ducks.

Have they started mating? usually once mating starts eggs follow anywhere from 2 weeks to a month after. so shouldn't be long. actually I guess the drake does have" something" to do with it.

cute names
