I got my babies the 26th of May. When will the girls begin laying? (I believe I have at least two males.[IMG] ) How old are they when they start to lay? What does a duck egg look like? I have six Pekin and one Swedish.

It depends on the breed #1, then on the individual. My pekin started laying about 5-5 1/2 months old. I think it's 20-24 weeks for most breeds.

ETA: My duck eggs don't really look all that different, but they feel different. They are very smooth feeling, and sometimes waxy. My pekins lay huge eggs to, I always know which ones are theirs!

That significantly depends on how large the breed is - smaller breeds mature quicker, larger ones take longer to mature.

For what it's worth my Khaki Campbells didn't start laying until 21 weeks.

I have Khaki Campbells and Welsh Harlequins. I got them May 11, and I just got my first egg a couple of days ago. I got one two days in a row, but nothing for the last 3 days.

I have no idea which ones are laying.
