When do I give them grit?

So.... HOW do I give them the grit? Just sprinkle it in their pen? They are only 11 days old, on the starter feed, but I would like to give them treats. I have 4, so a tablespoon sprinkled on top of their pine shavings. They are still in a fashioned brooder.

I'm a newbie to chicken raising also, but what I did with mine that are on chick starter is make a temporary pen for them to run around in once in awhile (under supervision) on an area of half grass and half dirt.

It's a good day out for them and they get to peck around. I keep them out for about an hour or two then it's back into the brooder bin I have set up for them.
