When do I turn off the quail brooder heat lamp?

hypnofrogstevie i moved mine to the barn last night. the barn was over 40 because we had a warm day. when i left them at 9 o clock it was 70 under the heat lamp. when i checked it this morning, found two inches of snow on the ground and much colder out side, it was 65 under the heat lamp. they were not bunched up at all. just checked on them again little bit ago, they are still fine and i think it was like 62 63 under the light.
i did have to keep two in the house in the tote. one has a bumb leg and was having trouble on the wire and the other is a little runt. so they will stay together in the house a little longer. i am going to put even smaller wire on the bottom. i think now it is 1/2 and i will go to 1/4. the bigger guys have no problem. other than chickens sitting on there cage to get near the heat lamp....

Stevie, I'm pretty sure your coturnix quails are 3 weeks and 1 day old today (as im pretty sure most of yours were hatched same day as mine he he)!

I had mine under a true heatlamp until 2 1/2 weeks old, then I took out the heatlamp and now they only have a normal room light on them 24/7. The house stays at 61 F and they don't huddle at all. I'm waiting until the molt atleast once before I put them outside as they seem to molt around 5-6 weeks old....atleast my first two batches did...and I don't want to loose any outside to the chill. *burr*
