When do roo's start to crow?

Hi All,

My coturnix are 28 days old and a few are starting to crow ( I think ). I have never owned quail before and I was wondering if only the Roos make the unique call I just started to hear- I can't describe it well- it sounds like they are chuttering, look-at meeeee. Does the call get louder as they age? Do the crow sounds change during breeding season? Thanks for your help.

6 weeks on the dot mine did but now that it's dark and cold they haven't been as much.

anytime from about 4 weeks on is about right for them to start trying....
