When do roosters start to crow?

My barred rock still has not crowed at 17 weeks and yes he is definitely a he. I guess its as individual as each chick. Humm--- I wonder if it is because he has no roosters around to copy? Gloria Jean

It would be nice if that were true. Mine start about 4 every single morning. Also anytime during the night that something sets off the neighbor's peacocks. That triggers another neighbors games and well it just spreads as they 'talk' to each other.

We have ~15 -20 10.5-week-old roos and only 3 are crowing. The earliest one started crowing at around 8-9 week, the other two started within the past week or so. The rest still sound like chirping chicks (just a little deep voice now:D ).

My Ameraucaner cockerel started at 11 weeks.........and he keeps crowing and crowing and crowing and crowing and crowing and crowing and cr.........

Our RIR named "Lily" just began crowing at 9 weeks (kind of the first part of a crow) and now at 11 weeks is crowing for real, but quieter in volume then he will eventually achieve, I'm sure. He practices all day! Tomorrow he is going to a new home out of town to people who "miss the crowing"(we have too many neighbors for a rooster). We will be sorry to be down to three chickens, the kids are very fond of Lily.

Another question along with the crowing question (thanks for all the replies by the way

)....

Can EE hens have iridescent green on the tail feathers or does that make it a definite roo?

I have an 8 wk old Serama just started sqeaking yesterday at 5:00 a.m. Hilarious!!!!!!! Only about a half a squeak.

My BO roo isn't crowing yet but he started making a super funny noise earlier this week. I let them out in the backyard and two of the girls wandered to the other side of the shed out of his sight. He got hysterical and he made the wierdest, most hilarious squeaking noise! He's a good boy though cuz the girls came a running when they heard him and he herded them into the coop to check them out and make sure they were ok. I think he's gonna be a great protector (and hopefully daddy next spring!) so long as we can keep him. Fingers crossed that he's a quiet-ish roo and that our neighbors like him
