Hello BYC'ers!

Just wondering when my teen chicks will stop their baby peeping in exchange for big girl sounds? They are close to 8 weeks old and are fully feathered out and living outside now. Just curious....

Of my 5 pullets, only one consistently sounds like a big chicken so far. That one is about 12wks and the others are around 10-11wks. But the one who does cluck instead of peep has been doing it for a couple weeks now. Maybe her voice just changed early...

I was wondering this same thing lol Glad you asked

My youngsters are about 12 weeks old now and are just starting to cluck instead of peep, though they still peep if something scares them.

My 8 week olds started to "cluck" about a week ago, mostly when scared, excited over treats or when one got stomped on by her sister!

at 14 weeks mine are also starting, but it's about half and half and when they get spooked......They run off peeping!

They start laying around 5 months. Watch for the combs turning bright red, and they'll take a real interest in the laying boxes, checking them out, laying and scratching in them. Then you know they're turning into young ladies about to lay.
