I am wanting to band my chicks legs so that one my kids can tell them apart and two so that if they are loose my jerk of a neighbor can't try and claim them as his. My pekins are 5 weeks old and I don't want to go ahead and band them if their legs are just going to get bigger and I will have to cut the band's off and redo them.

They reach full size at around 10 weeks. You could probably do the leg bands at around 8 weeks though. This is just what i have read. I'm not sure if this is entirely right.

Claim them as his? yikes. mind you he could always just cut bands off?? I think Storey's guide says 9wks? i'd have to go read, i need to band mine too but they are too young... i do head counts at night and too many ducks looking alike means confusion lol

There are some that easily pop off.. i have some for my scovies.. i have a few to many copies.. but i would say definitely expect size changes, be prepared to change if need be they are something that must be monitored closely to avoid injury, sadly we've had a few posts where the birds legs have grown into bands.
