Thank you for the compliments, I never expected such a response from hijacking a thread!
To answer KandK's first question; in my last post, the Tom is the bird on the left hand side of the doorway. His snood was just starting to droop at that point.
Regarding keeping things clean, the turkeys were not allowed in the house free range all the time. If one of us were in the mood to have the windex and a roll of paper towels handy, or the box of Baby wipes, then they could come in for some lovin'.
We also have a tiled floor, so accidents are easily cleaned up right away. They can go about 20 min. between poops so we would put them out every so often to poop, then they would come right back in.
We have carpet in the t.v./computer room, that's where we draw the line. The other night we were deep into watching football, the sound turned up high, when I noticed a pecking and scratching sound coming from behind me. The turks had snuck past the baby gate, it was open just enough for the Hen to push it open all the way, and had come inside ever so quietly to invade the t.v. room. The hen was pecking on the paint on the door, that's what gave them away. I had my camera on the desk so I snapped their picture;
It's getting harder and harder to shoosh them back outside. Number one they don't want to go and number two they are too heavy to pick up so we have to push them. The Tom puts his brakes on, then starts his temper tantrum stomping. It's quite a comical routine we have to go through when these things happen.
I have to think that our turkeys are so people/animal friendly because we handled them as much as possible.
They would sleep for hours in our hoodies that were lined with paper towels.
Before;
...until they got too big to fit....
My DH can't do anything around the house without "help" either from the hen or the tom, or sometimes both.
They both were very accepting of our Boerboel pup when he arrived at 8 weeks old.
The hen follows "Carter" around, almost babysitting him as he gets into trouble.
We love them very much, thanks for letting me share them with you.
