Warm water doesn't really freeze faster than cold water, it just appears that way. The temperature difference between the water and the air causes evaporation - which is why you see steam rising off the water's surface. You're actually freezing less water in the container, because there's less volume there. The less water you're freezing, the faster you end up with ice!
