When do you worm chickens?

Grind up GARLIC and sprinkle it over a "treat feed" for your chickens. This is an all natural remedie for worms, and lice. Don't overdo it though. Just a little dab will do it as the old Brylcream add said.

You can use pumpkins seeds to as a natural wormer. Get you a fresh pumpkin and cut it open and let them have at it.

But to answer the question.....You can use Ivomec Eprinex (cattle wormer) the dosage is .5cc for large fowl and .25cc for bantam's. You put this on the skin at the bass of the neck or right above the tail feather's. Works great for worms and mites/lice. You can also use Safeguard (cattle wormer and much easier) it is a paste, comes in something that looks like a syringe. Just squeeze a bb size amount on your finger and put it in the roof of there mouth. Maybe a little less for bantams. I would not be scared to use either one of those. I got my info from 2 very chicken-smart people......

After consulting with the experts I had two choices: The Eprinex that barnyard used and valbazen, also a cattle wormer.
Valbazen turned out to be available locally, while I would have had to drive an hour to get the eprinex.
For valbazen, you give 1/4 cc. orally. Just open the beak and squirt it in.
Neither of these products is cheap. The valbazen cost $35, but the bottle I got is good until the end of 2011.
Two weeks is considered a safe withdrawel time for eating the eggs from a hen wormed with valbazen.

I have a tube of Safeguard horse wormer (apple flavored) have given it to my goats..is it same as safeguard for cattle that was mentioned? also I was wondering about that ivomec. i give the ivomec injectable to my goats orally for both lice and worms.. by putting the liquied on squin of chicken does that take care of the worms or just lice/mites? and has anyone ever heard of giving it orally? and a two week egg withdrawal for both eh? Hmm I am also wondering about the pumpkins I had out for decorations for fall.. seems as if they are frozen and maybe a bit mushy.. would they be ok to throw in to see if anyone is interested in them or should it only be fresh pumpkins? also I know i have different types of pumpkins out.. does this matter too?
