when does a PEEP become a BOK?

My 5 month old standard game hens are 100% "boking". The 3 1/2 month old still peeps, different than a young chick, she has several noises, all "peepy" still.

And Prissy the little teeny game hen, she has a very light voice like she's just stuck. Not peeping, not boking. Must be a teeny hen thing.

Hee-hee...I was just talking about this w/ another chicken-fanatic!

I have silkies of all ages & most are chicks. My "teenaged" silkies actually are having their voices crack & they're about 6-7 months old. Sometimes, they stop & look around w/ a "what was THAT?!" head tilt. The ones that are older are bok-ing & the younger ones are definitely still peeping.

At 19 weeks, mine are mostly bokking -- except when you give 'em a good whop on the buns to get them to move along. Then they peep XD

I think mine were between 13 - 16 weeks when their voices changed. Even now at 24+ weeks I occasionally hear a new noise.

I have 2 black ausies that make a very loud noise that is neither a cluck or bok. They are definitely the dominate birds of the flock.

My smallest (and best egg layer) is the loudest. It is a small White Leghorn. It can probably best be described as a "dinosaur screech". It sounds a lot like sound affects Hollywood likes to give dinosaurs in the movies. I often refer to her as my little dinosaurs.

Many of my pullets screech when they see me and they are begging for a treat. They start screeching as soon as I pull into the driveway after work each day. They know that some fresh weeds, a sunflower seed head, or some other treat is not far away. None of them though match the dinosaur screech of my White Leghorn. The screeches quickly quiet to calm clucks as soon as they get a treat.
