this may be a dumb question...
i received 9 live yellow chicks, 2 died in shipping, and 9 mixed chipmonk and darker color chicks. i (being a newbie) didnt realize that you could ask to have your ordered chicks marked to distinguish packing peanuts from your order - when i called they said the dark ones are the peanuts. so now they are 5 wks old and the only ones that i can recognize are 2 buff orps and 2 brahmas - there are still six yellow and almost white birds that look very generic but the darker birds look like the silver laced and gold laced wyandottes i ordered and the darker ones also have 2 birds with dark (bluish) legs which would be the ameraucana pullets(?) none of the yellow or almost white birds have dark legs. so would this mean none of the light birds are ameraucanas? i am confused

as always thanks for any info:)

What kind of chicks did you order? And...are you able to post some pics? A lot of people here can help identify the chicks but being able to see them helps a lot.

This thread will probably get higher traffic if it's posted in the "What Breed Or Gender is This?" forum. I'll contact one of the mods and have them move it for you.

thanks lorie,

i will try to get some pics
- the breeds i ordered were -2 buff orps, 2 silver laced wyandottes, 2 gold laced wyandottes, 2 ameracaunas, 2 light brahmas - all pullets.

The yellows could be your Light Brahmas. I'm guessing they'd start life looking similar to my Delawares.

If you haven't been there yet, Feathersite has tons of pics of most breeds, including a lot of chick pics.

edited to add: EEs (the hatchery probably didn't send true Ameraucanas) come in a huge variety of colors, so it's almost impossible to say what they would look like as chicks -- though if they are true Ameraucanas they should have some indication of tufts and beards, like "puffier" faces than the other chicks.

The posted GLW looks like my EEs. Stormy Mostly cause of the legs.
and my light brahmas are a creamy white with gray and black backs.

ok - after several sad attempts at photos - these are what i managed with help from dh. also i am pretty convinced that my packing peanuts were the yellow chicks after all - other than what are really obviously the buff orps and light brahmas (i didnt include those in the photos) the yellow chicks have now become white and i know i didnt order any white chickens - the breeds i did order were all supposed to be pullets. so i am figuring that these are the gold laced wyandottes, silver laced wyandotte, ameraucanas (or ee's) the last pic of the white (i really think roo) is one of the ones i think was a packing peanut, there are other white ones with smaller lighter colored combs but i doubt they would have sent any pullets as peanuts. i didnt think to tell the hatchery to mark the ones i ordered (first time chicken orderer:) ) and when i called they told me the light ones were my order and the darker ones were the peanuts - i think that was an error? what do you guys think? i dont know if the pics are going to post
