when does egglaying start?

i have roughly 13 week old RIR's and i was wondering what are some of the signs that will show up when they are near laying. I know that the wattles and comb gets redder but is there anything more concrete?

Nope that about as concrete as they get. Assuming you got those from a hatchery they are more likely production reds, which means you can expect them to start laying at about 5 months. If they are true RIR's 6-7 months.
