when incubating eggs do i help the chick get out of the eggs?

hi so i have been wanting to hatch some chickens eggs and i have a rooster and nine hens so im going to be getting a incubator and im going to start incubating some chicken eggs but i dont know when i should help a chicken get out of the egg and i knoe not to help unless they need it but when do they need the help and how do i help with out hurting the chick im trying to learn has much has i can and would love all tips and input thanks

When done correctly, assisting is fine. Every single chick I have ever assisted with the exception of three have gone on to live happy, healthy, productive lives. I even assisted a button quail in my last hatch that is doing great now. But you can't rush it or you will do more harm than good.

ok thanks and one more thing what is a external pip when incubating chicken eggs

An external pip is when the chick makes the first hole in the shell of the egg so it can breathe. Then it finishes absorbing the yolk for a while before it starts to zip.

Typically getting involved in the hatching process very rarely results in a harmonious outcome - for the chick. Your results may vary.

I usually wait for 24hrs then help out, usually it’s successful, when help isn’t given rarely does the chick live.
