When Is ENOUGH, ENOUGH!? Overmating A Special Needs Girl

She still has quite a bit of feathers on her head, a bit of a bald spot but not bad what so ever, the males have been hunkering down today with Michigan Snow Storm and temp, no one is feeling frisky and she hasn't laid her egg. I've been watching them. I left Nettie a PM about duck diapers. The thing is, when she is in the house with us, she pants and heads to the slider and wants to go out she gets to warm in our house.

She has her winter downs that keep her warm. Bringing her in will result into a molt of the winterdowns, and can make her freeze outside. Best is to divide the pen and have the boys by themselves.

That is what I'm leaning on more and more, once spring has officially sprung I may very well do that and probably will. Right now, everyones friskiness is in hibranation LOL! While we had that warm spell everyone was flirtatious and hormones in over drive. The boys don't want to get blue balled. I'm sorry I know that was wrong but I couldn't resist.

I'd seperate them, even if she handles it, its probably not a great experience...
But I know a lady, who had a sinlge drake and duck. The duck was killed from overmating...

and that was only one drake

I will seperate them into seperate kennels/area. Especially with me getting a 15lb male goose Thursday! Doubt he'll try and mate with the females, but you never know. From what I understand he has changed his preference from females to male. LOL!

Disabled ducks tend to get pick upon alot. seperation seems to be the only answer, until after mating season atleast.
