By day 7 you usually can tell...

Honestly if your a novice candler or don't have a great candling light you will not be able to tell in my opinion....

I wait until day 10 to candle. Dark eggs day 12 or 13.

When you candle early they are in a very fragile time of development annd you could harm them.

Probably not. I don't think even an experienced candler could tell if a temp spike affected them at this point. It would be very difficult to see them move, if at all. Just candle at day 7-10, if they didn't survive you will know it. Are these your duck eggs?

When was the temp spike? And how long and high was it elevated? It might not have affected them at all.

I was too impatient to wait and actually candled late on day # 4; saw DEFINITE spidery veining/developement, but all were white or light eggs.

Also, if you had a problem like a temp spike, it will probably take a few days for it to become apparent if it affected them or not.... Even if you saw developement, may not tell you much unless you check in a couple/few days for CONTINUED developement (does that make sense?) Good luck!!
