When is/was the first day of spring?

I just bought my first plant! I was just wondering when the first day of spring was or is? I bought a hanging ivy plant for the chicken tractor and it looks great.

I think it's getting close...I have rotten little starlings making nests in my gutters and eves...grrrr They come, they eat, they leave..they come they eat they leave.
