When it Rain Chickens dont go back to coope

Mine hide in the funniest places when it down pores, picture 9 hens and a huge RIR roo all hiding under one lawn chair. I wish I could have gotten a picture of that but I didn't want to get my camera wet! But when it's a light rain or misting out they seem really happy and forage even harder. They refuse to go back into the coop unless there is thunder and lighting then they all run as fast as they can.

mine stay out in the rain most of the time when it rains. I keep the run/coop doors open so that they can get in there. My littles are in a pen that only has a tarp over one side of it so I have a large pet taxi in there for them to go into when it rains. I did lose one of my WLRC in the heat because of the taxi, but I at long as I have 1 rooster to go with any hen I have I am good.

Ours stay out in the rain, but will hide under the coop (it's raised off the ground so they can get under). Their coop door is open as well, but they tend to stay outside.

Interesting what shelleyd2008 said: I've always heard that you can tell how long/bad it's going to rain by the behavior of your chickens. If it's going to rain all day they'll stay out in the rain, but if the rain will stop soon they will hide from it. <<

We just had a downpour and all the chickens went under the coop. Now it's blue skies and they're back out. Yesterday we had rain for several hours, and they were just hanging out in it.

It's been so dang hot here that when we got a little thundershower the other day, mine were all running around, throwing their wings in the air and clucking, "HALLELUYAH!"

Rain won't hurt them...it's not they will melt lol Mine LOVE LOVE LOVE the rain.

A bit back it was pouring so hard outside...and my silly girls were parading outside in the rain, happily jumping in puddles and dancing thru the drops.

They do just fine in the rain, IMHO...however....if it is cold temps and they are playing in the rain, they get shooed in. I don't want to take a chance of frostbite.
