When it rains, it pours!

So, a little over 24 hours after the first arrival, by my guess, I was able to see three little fluff balls in the nest with Spindly. :jumpy :jumpy :jumpy Due to the nature of the cage setup, I can't get a really good look at what is going on, without unscrewing my eyeballs and holding them out on a stick. :idunno
Hopefully by late tomorrow afternoon, everybody will have hatched.

If Spindly decides to clear out and run her brood around and there are still eggs in the nest, I will try to candle them and put any hopeful ones in the nest that Twiggy is sitting in. If I have it right, then by late Monday or Tuesday, someone should hatch under her.

Once that is settled, I can go to phase two. Dealing with Henrietta behaving like the drunk aunt at thanksgiving, convinced the family children are conspiring against her. Hopefully Galoot will continue helping to keep her from falling right off her trolley, while providing chicks of all three broods with someone large to hide behind.

Please hold thumbs that it all works out. I may need a drink or six to get to next Friday. :gig

So for today's entertainment, it seems that the little ones decided to play musical chickens. :wee :wee :wee
When I arrived to do my sunset check on the chooks, it seems that the three little ones who hatched under Spindly, are now snuggled up with Twiggy next door. I think it may take about another half a week to get an idea of what is going on in there. :idunno

So, for today's episode Twiggy now has a compliment of six baby chicks sharing the nest with her and her three eggs. Spindly is still on her nest with what I think are two or three eggs. I think this hatch might spread out over a week in total.

Today I went out to look over things at the run and it seems that Spindly decided that it is time for the chicks to see the big world outside their enclosure. :celebrate
I counted a total of nine chicks. The hatch seems to have spanned over a week, so we have a wide range from biggest to smallest. Spindly seems a tad short fused. Anyone who goes near to look at the gang, seems to pay a few feathers for the admission fee.
I hope it all works out.

On Friday, second day of the year, my Spindly, who just got done hatching and raising six chicks, decided she would go another round. I decided this time around to let her get on with it and see how it works out. :idunno

Today, just five days later, her sister Twiggy decided to bed down in the other nest for the night.
So, I set up a makeshift nest from an old round plastic tub, so there is somewhere else for Goofy and Henrietta to lay their eggs.
I have no idea what I am gonna do if I end up with a dozen chicks appearing. :barnie:jumpy:jumpy:jumpy
Can you remove some of the eggs?

The hen who about took the others' face off for just thinking about messing with the chicks was my best broody hen. She went from bottom end of the pecking order to the top when she finally hatched out the chicks. She even took on the head hen and won when she had chicks to protect.

The other broody I had, who let the other hens abuse and pick on the chicks, was not my favorite - I never let her sit again as she was not a great mom or brooder.

IMO, a feisty, spicy mom on the chicks' behalf is perfect!

Well, discovered this morning I was mistaken. There is one egg. So, I got nine out of ten. Will remove the egg when possible without getting a face-full of angry mother hen.
Stay safe, nothing like an angry mother hen to set you straight
