He's a good looking bird, and I'm not complaining. But we live in an urban envornment and the first time he crows, he's going to freezer camp.

He was born Oct 15th, and is about 12 weeks old now. I had read they crow around 10 weeks old, but in another post it's months later.

Should I be counting my blessings, or listening closer?

Could be any day now. They all vary. Good luck....

we had quite a few roosters last year. they started crowing around 8 to 10 weeks. the first noise you will hear sounds something like a sick cry. I thought some one had hurt them selves but the only ones in the room were the chicks. it should be some time after those first funny attempts before they give an actual full blown crow. good luck though cause they wont be big enough to send to the freezer for 8 to 10 months. ours were born Feb25 and we took them to the wonderful Amish couple close by at the end of Aug. and they were still not as fat ,done up ,as I thought they would be.

]I had 4 BO Roos that started to crow between 12 and 14 weeks. After that, they never shut up. They even crowed all night.Somtimes I still miss those delicious roosters. NOT!

Here's my problem;

"Ducky" is now 18 1/2 weeks old. I still haven't heard him crow.
In a week we'll be gone for 10 days, and someone else will be watching the birds.

Do I ~do him in~ now, or hope he doesn't crow for another 2 weeks....

Problem solved - Ducky got accepted to freezer camp last night.

Boy, 19 week old Buff Orpinton Roo's don't have much breast meat on them, do they?
