? When should I get Baby chicks ?

I Used to have 6 chickens, now only four because the others were roosters, Now I only have 3 hens, So I'm going to get like 6 more, but I don't know when I should, It is august and I live in Michigan. Is it going to be too cold before they get older enough to get out of the house?? I don't know what to do, When should I buy more chicks?????? PLEASE!!! I really Need Help! I am also going to be getting a new coop soon, so I need to know how many chicks I'm gonna need to get.. Please help

Most baby chicks full feather out at 4 to 5 weeks. Once they are fully feathered out, you don't have to worry too much about them being outside. If you get them soon, you should have time tio get them out of the house and into the coop before the weather turns nasty in Michigan.

They should be ok with a light on until they get a few months old. I had the exact same thing happen to me. Of course I live in the south and the temps were not a problem. But I have gotten them in the early spring and kept them warm with a light until they were 2 mos old.

get full grown hens. They will work into your current flock much easier.

If you are getting or hatching chicks, do it now or wait til spring.

Better yet, do Craig's list and buy some started pullets. Raising chicks is such a hassle.
