When should my chicks comb and wattles start to turn red?

My chicks are 9 weeks old and some of them have more red combs than the others. Is this a sign of boys? I'm staring to freak out!!! The breeds are Cuckoo Maran, Delaware, Sapphire Gem, Easter Egger, and 3 other barnyard mixes.

Is that a Dominique? My Dominique's combs started turning pink like that between 9 and 10 weeks. They are both girls who started laying just before 20 weeks.
