I have a great red sex link hen. She is about 2 years old. In May she laid 29 eggs, which is nearly one everyday. This hen is great in every way.
Two weeks ago she became egg bound. She was looking pretty sickly when I gave her calcium to help her along. She laid one broken egg and what appeared to be one soft shelled egg. I am not sure if it was one or two eggs since it was in two different locations and she walked all over it. I was worried about peritonitis and permanent damage. After laying the broken egg she was depressed for a few days.
Despite her ordeal, she seems to be feeling 100% normal now. For a week she's been running around, eating, chasing the pullets around the barn, etc. However, she has not laid an egg since the egg bound incident. Should I be worried, or does she just need more time to recover? I'd gladly get her some antibiotics or other remedy if needed. She is acting completely normal with the exception of not laying eggs anymore. She has free choice layer pellets and oyster shell, plus they free range all day long.
