When should you announce a breed project or color project?

Are you still trying to create Dun? Because if you are, you're gonna need a can of spray paint. LOL,

You have to know that what you are trying to do is even possible. You can't create a color series from something that does not even exist in ducks. I remember your thread before and one of your big issues was confusing chicken genes with duck genes (even though several are named similarly, they are not the same in all cases). Khaki is possible (dusky Mallard plus sex-linked brown) and chocolate is possible (extended black plus sex-linked brown). What is not possible is a Khaki/Dun series similar to that in chickens as there is not an incompletely dominant gene in ducks that will do this.

Hopefully, this is not the same project? Maybe you are on to something new? If so, good luck!

I say that you should keep it top secret until it is time to unveil the spectacular color / breed that you have created.

At that point you can spring it on the world. You will receive world wide acclaim.

You will have fame and hopefully fortune to show for all of the hard work.

All genetics questions shall be asked in riddles, in order to mask the top secret project.

It is possible that I am just winging this response, or possibly it is a description of a greater plan?

Good luck on your project, whatever it might be.

No I'm not trying the same thing that I was going to try a month or so ago. But I'm going to try something along that line. I finally decided that I didn't know enough to go at it by myself so I ran it by someone else that breeds ducks in my area and someone I trust and I told them what I wanted to do and he steered me more in the right direction. Once I try the first cross I will share what I'm doing. I'm hoping to have my first project ducklings before winter of this year.

I honestly think that there are reasons to discuss and/or show a project early, and reasons not to. If you need some guidance and direction, by opening the discussion, you may get assistance in understanding where you are and need to go next. Of you may be able to make contact with people working on similar projects.

Reasons not to: harsh criticism of the entire idea, of the progress or of one's ability. It is one thing to provide constructive criticism, another to criticize the project or breeder, and that happens all too often.

Good luck! I can't wait to see how it goes. I think something similar to the Swedish project you were thinking of sounds awesome. I look forward to seeing how you progress!

Another thought is .... if you need more foundation birds to "set" your idea with... sharing and involving others that you trust.... could be a bonding and fun adventure... JMO

And the excitement in the duck world builds .....
