i have 15 golden comets that are just over a week old i was just wanting to know when should i clip there wings to keep them from flying out of the run if it ant got a top on it well i will be back to see what you all say

We don't clip their wings until they decide to escape..lol. But its usually when they are about 5-6 months old.

thats cool because i dont want them to get out and then get attacked by a dog or cat thats why i asked

My Barred rocks are 17 days old and have been "trying to escape for about a week now! We had them in giant plastic tubs in our bathroom - moved them to an old tent in our garage the other night because if I didn't cover the tubs they flew out and made a mess, and if I covered them they went buck wild trying to knock the lid off! Last time I changed the water when they were still in the tubs I wound up with 3 of them riding me around the house.

I was told not to clip unless they start trying to escape the yard. If you use a fence that has points at the top like a picketed fence they will be unlikely to jump up and roost on it. Also, if you clip their wings it can prevent them from escaping predators too, so it's best to wait until you know that it's necessary to keep you in code with the city with non-escaping poultry and keeping happy neighbors.

well i am going to they are going to be in a pen most of the time then i might let them out when i am out there but thats why i am going to clip there wings

yea i know they would get out if i dont do that i mean it is only going to be 6' high well i hope it dose not hurt them if they saty in and in the coop
