When to close windows?

Hi there! I am in North Texas where is only gets below freezing a few nights per year so I'm not super worried about my hens getting cold, but I would like to know when y'all start closing the windows on your coops? They have plenty of ventilation around the top of the coop, so just wondering when to close their side windows up to prevent a cold draft. Thanks in advance!!

I close my coops windows in the end of October.

Because it hasn't been so cold where I live.

Here in central NC I don't.

The side window is new on my Little Monitor Coop, but in the in-town setup the pop door was never closed except in emergencies.

The more I learn about the open coop concept the more I think that I'll switch to that when I build the new, larger, permanent facility. But I won't build a design that has windows directly beside the roosts.

Here in SE Mass, the front windows are open every day. Unless there is sideways snow or rain. The windows help with ventilation. We do put up some plastic on the sides of the run. The coop ends up the same temperature as outside. That includes a few days below zero degrees Fahrenheit.

im pretty sure some breeds are more tolerant than others, but its about like your weather here where im at ... as long as theyre mature and have a place to roost out of the wind and rain theyre fine ..

Of course it will depend on what your coop looks like and your weather, In Northwest Arkansas, not terribly different from your North Texas weather, I'd close my one window when I felt it was time. I did not go by a calendar or a temperature. If I had to come up with something it would be after it had cooled off enough that I wasn't worried about them being too hot but before it got below freezing overnight. Like you I had a lot of permanent ventilation up high so I did not consider anytime to really be too early.
