How old would you say chicks have to be when they can be given treats and grit?
Can grit stay in the brooder with them 24/7, or only given with feed/treats?

Good Morning. I usually do not give my chicks any treats until about 3 weeks old. I have given mashed hard boiled egg at 2 weeks old to boost their protein. Not every day though. I give grit at about 2-3 weeks if they have access to bugs or dirt. Mine are kept in the house until about 8 weeks old. I just sprinkle a little on the floor of the cage when they are young. I give them free access to grit when they are older in the pen and coop or if I am really lazy I mix a little in the food. Maybe someone has better ideas.

I started feeding my chicks teeny tiny treats when they were just a week old. I started out with plain yogurt, scrambled eggs, and finely mashed scratch minus the cracked corn (not much of that though). I was mixing grit into their starter feed. After 5 weeks I discovered I was giving them too much grit. Good thing they are resilient creatures

I've read not to give them too many green vegetables when they are young as it could cause intestinal upset.
