Hi, all.
I've got 2 chicks that are about 8 weeks old, and 4 adult hens. Right now I'm keeping the chicks in a section of the run that I've blocked off, and the big girls are free ranging as usual. At night the big girls go in the coop and the babies sleep in a dog crate in my dining room. We've let the chicks out with the big girls a couple of times for a few minutes and they do get pecked. I know it's best to keep them apart for another couple months, but I'm worried about how long we can keep this up because we don't have suitable outdoor housing for the chicks.
Any thoughts on how to integrate them sooner?
The friend who raised them from tiny chicks to 8 weeks for us did have them integrated with her big chickens, which is why I thought it would be okay to bring them home already.
Advice needed! My big girls tend to be fairly mean to each other, and I don't want a chicken tragedy.
Thanks.
