We have an assortment of 22 that we bought as chicks in early to mid march. Except for the Bantams, they are now a little larger than a pigeon, have all their feathers with no fuzz left, but still peep. Night time temps dropping to low 50's a couple nights a week. Are we ready for the move from the brooder to the coop? Brooder is 5' x 4' x 20" and chicks still have ample room.. for now.. little piggies.. cant hardly keep the feeder full.

Yep, they are more than ready! At night, they will cluster together and keep eachother warm. (It's kind of scary making that transition, but they'll be just fine.) Do you have a fenced in chicken run attached to the coop? If you do, at first when you put your chicks out, when it get's dark, they will probably cluster together in the run and peep their distress.) Make sure you go out when it's just gotten dark and put them all into the coop and shut them inside.

You'll probably have to do that for about a week, and then magically, you'll go out to check, and one evening, you'll find they all went inside on their own! TA-DAAAAAH

Good luck with your transitioning! It'll be fine,

Sharon
