My chicks are almost 9 weeks old. I have had the separated in the run of the coop from the my bigger girls for about 2 weeks now. I have put a small opening in their “playpen” so they can explore and go back in but the bigger hens are not very nice. They chase them back in. I’m afraid to take the separation gate down. When should I do this?

No, don't take their safety away. This can be a long process. Your older chickens will let you know when they accept the new young ones. As Patara from Appalachian Homestead would say have a plan B or C ready just in case you need it.
